Las Positas BJJ Club Returns to Campus

The LPC BJJ Club has been meeting at Ground Rules Academy this summer on Friday mornings at 11am, but this session will return to campus with the start of the fall semester.

We will be back on campus starting Friday 8/22 at 11am. We meet every Friday in room PE213 (2500 building).

Safety in stand-up grappling

Knowledge of grappling on the feet is a key aspect of self-defense and sport grappling. But it also introduces safety risks.

Stand-up grappling skills can be safely practiced when we follow a few simple guidelines:

  • Be aware of your surroundings when sparring. Avoid getting too close to nearby classmates.

  • Fall correctly using skills practiced in class

  • Do not resist a takedown when you are in a bad position

  • Do not force a takedown against somebody who is in a bad position

Jiu jitsu (like all contact sports) carries inherent risk of injury. But these risks can be minimized with a little extra care for yourself and your training partners 🙂

August Curriculum

Old-school BJJ is best characterized by three steps: take down, pass, submit. In that order. We're going to spend time this month on the first two steps. Then, we'll give your training partners a fighting chance by going over mount and back escapes.
